Adding A Slipmat To Your IIDX Controller
by: Tensai

When
I was browsing the sites of other homemade IIDX pads I noticed how some of them
were trying to imitate a real turntable feel.. :P Well, if you are a
skratch DJ, then you would know one of the most essential things to add. ..
A SLIPMAT!

the plastic thing on the platter
So the idea dawned on me, why not add a slipmap to the IIDX
pad. Afterall, I cant say how disappointed I was after receiving my new IIDX pad
and to find out how the turntable gets a stiff or almost a stuck feel after alot
of usage.
Doing this mod assumes you
already know how to take your controller apart and arent a wuss :P
Stuff you need:
-Your IIDX pad (duh)
-Wax
Paper or Circuit City Plasticbag-
-Razorblade
-Screwdriver
-Alcohol wipes or anything to clean with
-And some paper

- Ok, open your pad up and flip it over. Unscrew the nut in the middle to remove
the turntable.

- Once removed you can see the circular plastic "donuts". I will try to keep
from flaming but this is really a bad design. The plastic donuts will start to
get very scratched up and acquire black crap from the bottom of the platter from
heavy usage. If you can feel grinding or it is really stiff to turn the pad,
then its about time you clean them and do this mod!
- If you got a brand
new IIDX pad I would do this mod to prevent those donuts from scratching up in
the first place!! #$@#%!
- With them removed, clean them and feel for any crap on them. Ideally, you want
them to feel as smooth as possible. You can use your razorblade to *gently*
scrape anything off.
- For this part, I would
highly recommend you go to a nearby Circuit City and grab a few of their large
plastic bags. I say Circuit City because their plastic bags have the best
texture for making a slipperyyy slipmat!
-update: You can use wax paper
as a better replacement for the plastic bag.

- Grab your paper and place it
under the plastic bag. (you dont want to cut up the table your using!)
Then place your donut on top.

- Place some tape on the outer
ring to hold it and use your razor blade to **CAREFULLY** cut the inside out.

- Then proceed to cut out the
outside part.

- Once you're done you should
have two awsome new
IIDX SLIPMATS! =)

- Place *one* of the slipmats
between the two donuts, and place the other slipmat on the bottom of the
black platter as shown.
Make sure you place the slipmats like shown in the picture.
Do not place two of the
slipmats together on the same side. (creates static)
For clearer explanation the
layout should be: Black Platter-Slipmat-Donut Ring-Slipmat-Donut Ring

- Put everything back
together, you can tighten this screw all the way down, but dont over do it.
- Congrats! You're done modding your IIDX turntable! Now be amazed how much easier the pad turns! No more grinding or that annoying stiff feel. It may take you a couple tries to get the feel of the new pad, but I assure you its the closest thing you're gona get to the feel of a real turntable on the cheap IIDX pad.
- Also for those
wondering, yes its possible to mod your old' school ASCII pad the same way!
